At BreezeCare Oral Health, we focus on routine-first oral care — meaning we pay attention not only to products, but to how people actually build habits that they can repeat consistently in real life.

That’s why we participated as a recruitment partner in a peer-reviewed Australian qualitative research study published in BMC Oral Health (2021). The study explored the experiences of adults who became regular users of GC Tooth Mousse Plus®, a topical product that uses CPP-ACP (Recaldent®) technology.

Important note

This content is general education only and is not individual medical or dental advice. Always read the label and follow directions for use. Products containing CPP-ACP (Recaldent) are derived from milk protein and are not suitable for people with a milk protein allergy.

About the study (in plain English)

This research used qualitative, in-depth interviews with adults in Australia who had been prescribed Tooth Mousse Plus® by dental professionals and who had incorporated it into their routine as regular users.

Rather than measuring a single clinical outcome, the study explored lived experience — what people described before starting, while adopting the routine, and after becoming consistent users.

BreezeCare’s role

BreezeCare assisted with recruitment by inviting eligible customers to participate. The published paper notes that participants were invited because they were regular buyers of Tooth Mousse Plus® over time.

What CPP-ACP (Recaldent) is

CPP-ACP (marketed under the trademark name Recaldent®) is a milk-derived ingredient technology used in several oral-care formats, including certain dental creams and some sugar-free chewing gums.

What the study explored (and what it did not)

This study was not designed to compare products or test clinical outcomes. Instead, it explored how people described routine change over time when a new step was introduced into daily oral care.

A common “before–during–after” pattern

In the published paper, participants’ stories were commonly described as a progression:

  • Before: people often described oral vulnerability and frustration (for example, sensitivity, dryness, or a “damaged mouth” feeling).
  • During: starting a new step required effort, daily repetition, and working through practical barriers.
  • After: participants described reinforcing experiences that supported ongoing adherence and confidence.

The key theme is familiar to anyone trying to build a habit: adherence tends to improve when people understand the “why,” the routine fits real life, and they feel motivated to continue.

What we took from this as an oral routine lesson

The most valuable takeaway for BreezeCare was not a single “result,” but the behavioural pattern:

  • People stick with routines that are easy to understand
  • Routines work best when they are practical to repeat
  • Consistency improves when people feel reinforcement over time

Where Recaldent chewing gum fits for some people

Tooth Mousse Plus® is a topical format used as a structured step in a routine. Recaldent® chewing gum is a different format that may suit different moments of the day — for example, after meals when brushing is not immediately practical.

We do not treat formats as interchangeable. We treat them as options within a broader routine, chosen based on preference, fit, and professional guidance.

Transparency and limitations

This was a qualitative study focused on reported experiences and routine adoption, not a clinical trial designed to measure outcomes. Like most qualitative research, the authors also note limitations around sampling and transferability.

CPP-ACP (Recaldent) is milk-derived. If you have a milk protein allergy, this technology may not be suitable for you.
